Why this petition matters

Started by Dhani D'Arcy

Flowers are currently being sold locally and globally in plastic sleeves, despite single-use plastic bans worldwide. These items were overlooked in the 2022 NSW Plastic Actions Plan. It is important that we take immediate action and ban plastic flower sleeves in the new NSW Plastics Action Plan, to prevent more single-use plastics from ending up in landfill.

Plastic flower sleeves are problematic and place pressure on consumers to dispose of these single-use soft plastic items responsibly, yet without a trustworthy recycling program. We already have an ever-growing stockpile of soft plastic waste causing environmental damage, adding these unnecessary plastics to the new NSW Plastics Action Plan would help the NSW Government reach their NSW Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy target reducing plastic litter items by 30% by 2025.
